Emmett Thorpe joined the UC Santa Barbara Athletics Department as Assistant Director Facilities, Operations, and Event Management in Dec. 2021 after a year at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. 

At UC Santa Barbara Thorpe manages the game day operations for the 20 intercollegiate sports that the University sponsors. He acts as the primary contact for game officials, and event security personnel and assists both the home and opposing teams. With over 75 events a year Thorpe also oversees student workers and event staff. He is also the point person for scheduling EMS for games and practices at any of the eight ICA facilities. 

While at UNC Chapel Hill Thorpe served in an Operations and Event Management role supervising game day staff and operations for lacrosse, football, baseball, soccer, and swim. He also assisted the equipment team in the distribution and maintenance of equipment for football, field hockey, and soccer. 

Additionally, Emmett was an Athletic Event Assistant at UNC Greensboro from 2018-2020. He helped set up and break down all athletic-related events while helping with in-game support roles such as scoreboard operator, usher, and ticket taker. He managed concession and helped coordinate special events including the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’s Soccer National Championships.

Thorpe graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a B.S. in Recreational Management and Event planning. He is currently pursuing a master's in Sports Management through Western Carolina University.
