Nick Mathey joined UC Santa Barbara Media Relations in April 2023. Since then Mathey has been elevated from Assistant Director to Interim Associate Athletic Director. After a national search Mathey was officially named Associate Athletic Director for Communications and Digital Strategy in July 2025.
Mathey comes to the Gauchos after serving as the Sports Information Director at Birmingham-Southern College. While there Mathey was the primary contact for all 22 Panther sports teams. He also assumed the role of Media Director for the first round of the 2021 NCAA Division III Football Championships and Tournament Director for the Super Regional round of the 2022 NCAA Division III Baseball Championships.Â
Prior to Birmingham-Southern, Mathey spent the previous two years as a Marketing and Communications Graduate Assistant at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California. During his two-year stint Mathey oversaw all the communication and marketing efforts for men's soccer, women's basketball, baseball, and the men's and women's tennis programs.Â
Mathey earned his BS in Finance with a Sport Management minor from Aurora University in 2019 before receiving his MS in Kinesiology from Point Loma in 2021 with an emphasis in Sport Management. He was a four year student-athlete at Aurora competing in baseball and earning All-Conference and All-Region honors his senior season.
