IRVINE, Calif. -
Junior forward Allie Kueny scored a goal and assisted on another to lead UC Santa Barbara to a 3-0 shutout at UC Irvine Friday night.
UCSB jumped on-top early. In the ninth minute freshman Katie Smith blasted a cross into the box and Kueny cracked-it home with her right foot to give the Gauchos a 1-0 edge.
Less than five minutes later, at 13:25, Santa Barbara made it 2-0 when freshman forward Genelle Ives scored off of a double-assist from Kueny and junior forward Chandi Bickford. Kueny took a corner that was knocked-down by Bickford, who bumped a pass to Ives who knocked a shot past UCI's freshman goalkeeper Rosie Aguilera. The goal was the fourth on the year for Ives, a team-high.
UCSB's final score came in the 67th-minute. Sophomore midfielder Nicole Remmenga slid a pass to sophomore defender Katrina Wright. Wright one-timed a shot past Aguilera for her first score of the season, giving the Gauchos a 3-0 lead.
The win improves UCSB to 7-6 overall and 1-0 in Big West play. UC Irvine drops to 3-9-1 overall and 0-2 in league. The Gauchos travel to Long Beach State on Sunday for a noon match against the 49ers.
