SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (AP) - Alex Harris scored 25 points to rally UC Santa Barbara to a 75-67 victory over San Jose State Friday in the season opener for both teams.
The Gauchos trailed 60-55 with five minutes to go, but freshman James Powell made a 3-pointer to ignite an 11-2 run for UC Santa Barbara.
Harris, who went 5-for-9 from behind the 3-point line, scored six of his points in the final 3:23.
Chris Devine added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Gauchos, and Tom Garlepp also had eight rebounds.
Tim Pierce scored 13 of his team-high 18 points in the first half to lead San Jose State to a 37-31 lead. The Spartans led by as many as 12 points.
Freshman Darion Goins added 16 points and seven rebounds for San Jose State, while Lance Holloway had a game-high nine rebounds.
