UCSB Completes Successful Trip with 4-3 Win Over Hawaii


HONOLULU - The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team completed its time in Hawaii on Sunday with a thrilling 4-3 win over the host University of Hawaii.  The win improves UCSB to 
2-1 on the season.

The win over the Rainbow Warriors was a tough one for the Gauchos.  UCSB dropped the doubles point and trailed 1-0 entering the six singles matches. 
Playing at No. 5, 
Axel Bouillin secured a solid 6-2, 6-3 win to pull his team even at 1-1.  Santa Barbara took a 2-1 lead when 
Greg Scott topprd Miko Okamot at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3.

Leading 2-1, UCSB continued its powerful run in singles.  At No. 1, 
Mathieu Forget dropped Steve Broolyn, 6-4, 6-4 to give UCSB a 3-1 edge.  
Benjamin Recknagel, playing No. 2 for the Gauchos, defeated Hawaii's Alexi Kovalyav by a score of 7-5, 6-4 to give UCSB a 4-1 lead and the win.

The Rainbow Warriors won matches at No. 4 and No. 6 singles, but UCSB improved to 2-1 on the season with the 4-3 win.
The Gauchos will play their home opener on Thursday, Jan. 19 when they host BYU in a 1:00 p.m. match at the Recreation Center Courts.
