Gauchos Return to Conference Play; Sweep UC Riverside 7-0

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Gauchos (7-12; Big West 2-0) returned to conference play on Sunday and earned a 7-0 sweep over UC Riverside (2-19; Big West 0-3) to snap a three-match losing streak. The UCSB men secured the doubles point and were victorious in all six singles matches to remain undefeated in conference play and move into a tie with Hawaii atop the Big West standings.

The Gauchos clinched the doubles point for the second match in a row with victories at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. UCSB pair Erik Johnsson and Miles Seemann topped Felich/Vizcarra 8-3 at court two and the tandem of Teague Hamilton and Andrew Riminton added a win at court three by an identical 8-3 score to give the Gauchos the early lead. Play was suspended at the No. 1 court after the Gauchos secured the doubles point.

UC Santa Barbara never relinquished their lead and went on to sweep singles in the 7-0 triumph against the Highlanders.

Freshman Teague Hamilton moved up to the No. 4 position and continued his strong play as he defeated UCR sophomore Marcus Vizcarra 7-6, 6-1 to collect his third consecutive victory.

Junior Miles Seemann also moved up from his normal spot in the lineup and dispatched junior Sean Yun in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.

Sophomore Andrew Riminton returned to the singles lineup at the No. 6 slot, downing Michael Carella 6-4, 6-2.

At the top of the lineup, junior Tobias Galskov won in the only match that went the distance in a 4-6, 7-5, 10-3 comeback win against Luis Gastao and snapped a three-match skid to collect his team-leading 13th dual victory.

Junior Ziad Sultan dropped only three games in his 6-2, 6-1 triumph against the Highlanders' Cooper Bridge at No. 2 singles and senior Sasha Gryaznov topped Jack Felich 6-4, 6-3.

The Gauchos will next be in action on Friday, Apr. 11th when they host UC Davis (13-8; Big West 2-1) for Senior Day in their final home match of the season. Action is set to begin at the Rec Cen Courts at 1:30 p.m.
