Today, in the second round of the MSPF Tournament in Los Angeles, the Gauchos played the Anteaters in their second to last game of the season.
Just three seconds into the game, #3 of UC Irvine scored the game's first goal. Derek Shoemaker quickly responded with a goal of his own, tying the game at 1-1. Following another Santa Barbara goal, the Anteaters scored back-to-back goals putting them in the lead at 3-2.
UCSB opened the second quarter with two more goals by Shoemaker and Mitch Hamilton. The score heading into halftime was 4-3, Gauchos.
UC Irvine scored three goals about 30 seconds apart, bringing the score to 6-4 and putting them in the lead. With just a minute left in the game, Irvine scored one final goal, making the score at the end of the game 7-4, Anteaters.
Senior Chris Whitelegge denied twelve goals today and is now only eleven goals from tying for second place in the MSPF for the amount of career saves.
