No. 27 Gauchos Bounce Back with 7-0 Sweep of Fresno State

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sunday afternoon the No. 27 UCSB Men's Tennis achieved its first home win of the year with 7-0 sweep of the Fresno State Bulldogs. The Gauchos improve to 7-4 on the season.

Following a disappointing defeat, the Gauchos bounce back with a dominating win over Fresno State, whom beat the Gauchos 4-3 last year in Fresno. Santa Barbara dominated the match winning all five singles matches and claiming the doubles point.

"It was great to see our team bounce back the way we did," junior Teague Hamilton said. "It really shows how resilient we are as a team and it was a much needed victory.

The Bulldogs traveled with just five players so Fresno State was forced to forfeit both a doubles and singles matchup.   After defaulting 3 doubles, Nicolas Moreno and Anders Holm clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on number 2 doubles, suspending number 1 doubles at 3-4.

In singles play, the Gauchos raced to a quick lead winning the first set on all 5 courts.  Anders Holm put the Gauchos on the board in singles winning 6-1, 6-1 at number 4 singles.  Co-captain Hamilton finished soon after winning 6-2, 6-2 at number 5 singles, which clinched the match 4-0 for UCSB. This was Hamilton's third straight win since joining the starting lineup.

"For me it's really all about getting into the match," Hamilton said. "When I focus in, I really put full effort and hard work into getting a win for my team."

The Gauchos would follow with three more wins on the top three courts to give them the overall 7-0 win in their second home match of the season. The team will now look ahead to its next two home matches this Friday and Saturday. The Gauchos will host Sacramento State and USF and will look to make it three straight at home.
