No. 46 Gauchos Down USF 6-1 for Third Straight

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sunday afternoon the No. 46 UCSB Men's Tennis team added its third straight win of the dual match season defeating the University of San Francisco 6-1. With this win the Gauchos improve to 9-4 overall and 3-1 at home.

"We really had to work for our win today, the match was much closer than the final score indicated," Head Coach Marty Davis said. "The well coached Dons never quit, showed a ton of fight, and came back multiple times during the match."

The match started with a quick doubles win for the Gauchos on court one as the No. 38 team of seniors Nathan Eshmade and Miles Seemann downed their opponents 6-3. This tough duo has not lost a match since late January and has earned six wins since.

The doubles point looked to be in Santa Barbara's hands but San Francisco would not shy away, grinding out a 7-5 win on court three to even out play. With the point on the line, the freshman team of Nicolas Moreno de Alboran and Anders Holm rose to occasion with a 7-6 win on court two to put the Gauchos up 1-0.

Moreno de Alboran kept his momentum going into singles play after a sealing doubles win as he did not drop a single game in his match on court two. The freshman grabbed his third straight singles win defeating his opponent 6-0, 6-0.

With a 2-0 lead the Dons capitalized on their one win of the day with a straight set victory on court three to cut Santa Barbara's lead in half. With the match in close contention, the Gauchos would go on to battle out four more singles wins, all coming in third set deciders.

Junior Co-Captain Teague Hamilton rallied from a break down on court five winning five straight games to take a 6-2 set win in the third. His 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 win put UCSB up 3-1. With the match on the line, Eshmade would come up with another win on court one to seal the match at 4-1. He gave his team the overall win defeating his opponent 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

Holm and sophomore Cody Rakela would add to the score with wins on courts four and six, respectively. The No. 46 Gauchos have now won their last three matches having dropped just one point.

The Gauchos will be back on the courts this Friday as they host long time UCSB rival, UNLV. The match is set to start at 1pm.
