LOS ANGELES – No. 6 UCSB (3-1) was dealt its first loss of the season after falling 14-3 at No. 2 USC (3-0) on Saturday morning.
Shane Hauschild had a busy day, as he took a game-high 11 shots and was part of all three of UCSB's goals after netting two goals of his own and setting up Mitch Hamilton for his fourth quarter score. With today's performance, Hauschild has scored at least two goals in every game so far this season.
On defense, the Reed Cotterill continued to pace the Gauchos in the steals category, this time with two, while starting goalkeeper Liam Lenihan also picked up a swipe. In the cage, Lenihan recorded five saves, but he and Justyn Barrios both gave up seven goals to the Trojans.
USC opened the game with five unanswered goals, including four in the first quarter, before Hauschild punched in his first goal at the 4:29 mark in the second period. The Trojans would eventually take a 7-1 lead into the halftime break and added five more in the third.
UCSB found the scoreboard again in the fourth with Hamilton at the 4:54 mark and Hauschild following him up about two minutes later.
Leading USC's offense were Lachlan Edwards and Matteo Morelli with three goals apiece.
The Gauchos will make their home debut next Saturday when they will host UC San Diego at noon and Occidental College at 2 p.m. at Campus Pool. Tickets are available now online, over the phone at 805.893.UCSB (8272), and at the Ticketing Office in the ICA Building.
