Box Score DAVIS, Calif. – Shaelan Murison's second goal of the match in the 85th minute gave UC Santa Barbara a 2-1 win at UC Davis in a Big West Conference match on Thursday afternoon.
The Gauchos (6-3-3 overall, 2-0-0 Big West) have won three consecutive matches and five of their last six. The three-game winning streak is their longest of the season. Davis (5-8-0, 0-3-0) has lost five consecutive matches.
Murison's 10th goal of the season came at the 84:21 mark and broke a 1-1 deadlock. The UCSB senior recovered the ball off of a failed clearing attempt by the Aggies and put it past goalkeeper Nicki Rucki.
"This was a typical difficult Big West road game," said head coach Paul Stumpf. "We played well in periods, but made a number of mistakes. Still, we're coming home with the all-important three points."
The Gauchos took a 1-0 lead at 13:55 in the first half when Murison took a free kick from 24-yards out that beat Rucki into the upper right hand corner of the goal.
Davis evened the score in the 36th minute when Ana Williams scored her second tally of the season from right in front of the goal after a deflection.
UCSB had a 19-10 advantage in shots, including an 8-5 edge in shots on goal. Murison produced nine of the team's 19 shots. Hanna DeWeese was once again stellar in goal for the Gauchos with four saves.
Murison's two goals boosts her a career total to 27, tying her for eighth on the school's all-time list. The Santa Clara, Calif., native also has 67 points and is now 10th in Santa Barbara history.
UCSB returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 17 when it travels to Cal State Northridge for a 7:00 p.m. match. The Gauchos will play their next home match on Sunday, Oct. 20 when they host Cal Poly at 1:00 p.m. The first 200 fans in attendance for the contest against the Mustangs will receive a free pink t-shirt in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
