Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. – Shaelan Murison's goal in the 23rd minute knotted the score as visiting UC Santa Barbara and Cal State Fullerton battled to a 1-1 tie on Thursday night in Orange County.
For UCSB (6-4-5 overall, 2-1-2 Big West), Murison scored her league-leading 13th-goal of the season at the 22:03 mark to tie the score at 1-1. The Titans, who lead the league, (10-2-4, 3-0-3) claimed a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute when Atlanta Primus took a pass from Alba Barrios and pounded a shot home from outside the 18-yard box.
Murison's score came when she took a pass from freshman Dylan Lewis, dribbled in and then clubbed a shot from about 20 yards out, a low-driven shot from to the far right side of the box into the far post and past Noa Shumacher. Murison's 13th goal gave her more than any UCSB player since Jennifer Borcich had 15 in 2004.
"I am really proud of this group for coming back from a really bad start," said Head Coach Paul Stumpf. "We were able to get a point on the road, and that's a big deal for us."
Senior goalkeeper Hanna DeWeese needed just one save to limit Fullerton to its one goal, but the Santa Barbara defensive unit of Emma Vanderhyden, Sophia Dertorossian, Elise Ziem, Emily Johnson, Lauren Hess and Katherine Sheehy, controlled the match.
The Titans had a flurry of corner kicks in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but Santa Barbara's defenders and DeWeese were able to fight them off.
In the two overtimes, each team threatened, but neither could penetrate the goal.
UCSB will continue Big West Conference play on Sunday, Oct. 27 when it travels to the University of Hawai'i for a match that will kick-off at 8:00 p.m. (PDT). The contest can be viewed by clicking here. The Live Stats will be available here.
