Box Score LONG BEACH, Calif. – Lindsey Ruddins recorded her 10th double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs, but it was not enough as the UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-18) at the hands of Long Beach State in the Walter Pyramid on Friday night.
After a 3-1 win over the Beach two weeks ago at home, UCSB (19-5, 9-4 Big West) has now dropped three straight matches, its longest losing streak of the season. The three losses come during a tough stretch with six of seven games on the road, including four straight, commencing tomorrow at CSUN. Long Beach State, meanwhile, improves to 11-15 overall and 8-6 in conference with the win.
The Beach capitalized on its home court advantage, outhitting the Gauchos .279 to .126 while getting more efficient as the match wore on. UCSB on the other hand committed more attacking errors in each set than the last and were once again stymied at the net with just three total blocks, while LBSU was a force with 20.
All three sets started out competitive between the two teams, before Long Beach was able to string together stretches to pull away. In the first set with the score tied at 6-6, LBSU went on a 9-2 run and never looked back. A 7-2 run proved to be the difference midway through the second frame, and despite a 6-2 lead for UCSB to start the third, the Beach used an 11-2 run to change the tide and finish with the sweep.
After Ruddins' 10 kills, Tallulah Froley finished with nine while Tasia Farmer added seven. Zoe Fleck (15 digs) and Torre Glasker (10 digs) joined Ruddins in double figures, and the tandem of Olivia Lovenberg (16 assists) and Romoni Vivao (14 assists) paced the offense.
Long Beach State had a trio in double-figures, led by Tia Chavira's 14 kills.
UCSB will turn right around and play tomorrow, Nov. 16 at CSUN at 7:00 p.m. The match will air on ESPN3.
