Gauchos Cruise to 3-0 Sweep Over Cal State Fullerton

Box Score

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Lindsey Ruddins piled up 15 kills to lead the UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 25-20) sweep over visiting Cal State Fullerton in the penultimate match of the regular season on Friday night in the Thunderdome.

It was the 15th straight victory against the Titans for UCSB, who improved to 21-5 overall and 11-4 in Big West play, while Fullerton dropped to 12-14, 4-11.

With 15 kills, Ruddins, the all-time kills leader in program history during the rally scoring era (since 2001) and second all-time overall, surpassed the 1,900 mark for her career. In her most efficient season yet, Ruddins delivered another strong outing with a .367 hitting percentage on Friday.

In addition to Ruddins, a handful of Gauchos had strong performances, including junior middle blocker Rowan Ennis, who was all over the court. The Virginia Beach, Va. native finished with seven kills on just 12 attempts for an outstanding .500 hitting percentage, while adding a game-high three service aces to go along with three blocks and four digs.

Santa Barbara was especially effective at the net, out-blocking the Titans 19-7, led by seven block assists from Deni Wilson and six from Tallulah Froley, often teaming up for blocks throughout the night. Also adding to the defensive effort was senior Torre Glasker, who led the team with seven digs, while Zoe Fleck and Romoni Vivao added six apiece.

On offense, Glasker tallied eight kills on .294 hitting while Wilson and Froley each added six kills to the mix.

Overall, the Gauchos hit .270 to Fullerton's .132 and were able to put together key rallies when it mattered most to polish off the sweep. Olivia Lovenberg (23 assists) and Vivao (15 assists) distributed for the potent offensive attack all night.

Cal State Fullerton was led by eight kills apiece from Julia Crawford and Tyler Fezzey.

UCSB will conclude its regular season tomorrow, Nov. 23 against UC Irvine at 7:00 p.m. at home. Prior to the match, four seniors, Ruddins, Glasker, Chloe Allen and Charlie Robinson will be honored.
