Box Score

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team's Cinderella run in the NCAA Tournament ended at Spry Stadium on Saturday night as the Gauchos lost to Wake Forest, 1-0 in the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal.

The Gauchos had chances throughout the first half, with senior attacking midfielder Thibault Candia and senior right wingback Noah Billingsley providing some of the best opportunities.

Candia had a shot go high above the bar and Billingsley had a point-blank header saved by the chest of goalkeeper Andrew Pannenberg in the first half.

Late in the opening half, right back Alistair Johnston dribbled through several players in the 18 and buried a shot in the bottom right corner of goal to put Wake Forest up 1-0.

The Gauchos had more opportunities in the second half, but the Demon Deacons held strong defensively and held on to keep UCSB off the scoresheet.

UCSB ends its season with a 15-5-4 record.
