Gauchos Topple Titans in Sweep

Box Score

FULLERTON, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team cruised to its 11th straight win on Saturday night with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-17) sweep over Cal State Fullerton on the road in Titan Gym.

UCSB improved to 13-1 overall and 3-0 to start Big West play while the Titans dropped to 8-6 and 0-2 in conference.

In an all-around team win where 15 different Gauchos saw action on the court, Lindsey Ruddins led the way with a 10-kill, 10-dig effort for her seventh double-double of the season. The star senior also added five blocks, four of the solo variety, as UCSB out-blocked Fullerton 14 to 4 at the net.

It was a dominant performance all around for Santa Barbara, who hit .321 (44 kills-9 errors-109 attempts) opposed to the Titans' .032 (30-26-125) percentage and also held advantages in digs (48-39), assists (43-28) and kills (44-30).

After a 3-3 start behind three straight kills from freshman Tallulah Froley, the rest of the Gauchos got in the mix to catalyze a 5-0 run with kills from Rowan Ennis, Tasia Farmer, Torre Glasker and Ruddins. UCSB hit .371 (16-3-25) in the set and never looked back as they ran away with a 25-15 opening set win.

The second set was more of the same as the Gauchos jumped out to a 6-1 run behind multiple kills from Froley and Ruddins and breezed their way to a 25-13 result.

It was all but over from the outset of the third frame as Santa Barbara made it 10-1 in a matter of minutes as CSF committed a handful of errors and the UCSB offense was firing on all cylinders. Glasker served up two aces to spark the hot start and the Gauchos led by as many as 12 points (17-5) before ultimately winning 25-17.

Farmer tallied eight kills while Froley finished with seven, and Ennis logged six. Gigi Ruddins was a fixture in the rotation for her fourth straight match and added five kills on .333 hitting. Olivia Lovenberg and Romoni Vivao were once again extremely effective setting with 21 and 19 assists, respectively, and Zoe Fleck led the team with 16 digs.

UCSB will look to keep its streak going into October as it takes on UC Davis at home on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Thunderdome.
