LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (15-2) suffered its second successive defeat on the final day of the MPSF SoCal Invitational, losing 11-10 to No. 4 Pacific in the tournament's third place match at Spieker Aquatics Center on Sunday morning.

Pacific jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first quarter, but the Gauchos had the advantage in the second frame.

Down 4-1 with just over two minutes gone in the second quarter, junior attacker Leo Yuno's power play goal from senior utility Ivan Gvozdanovic started a 4-2 UCSB run that ended with junior attacker Spencer Wood's power play goal from sophomore driver Ryan Brosnan to make the halftime score 6-5 in favor of Pacific.

Jeremie Cote of the Tigers would score their seventh and eighth points to extend the lead to 8-5 after four minutes in the second half.

Sophomore attacker Sam Nangle and Yuno scored back-to-back power play goals to get the Gauchos back within one.

Cote scored again for Pacific at the end of the third quarter to give the Tigers a 9-7 advantage heading into the final period.

Gvozdanovic scored with 6:22 to go in regulation for UCSB, but Hosmer had the reply for Pacific to restore the two-point gap, 10-8 with 3:22 left.

Then, Yuno and junior attacker Cole Brosnan found the back of the net just over a minute apart for the first tie of the game.

Santa Barbara's comeback bid was ended when Engin Ege Colak's goal with 1:04 left sealed the upset win for UCSB's Golden Coast Conference rivals.

The Gauchos play USC at Campus Pool on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 12 p.m. The 1979 national championship-winning team will be honored before the match.
