Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – First half goals by Isabella Viana and Dylan Lewis gave UC Santa Barbara a 2-0 lead and the Gauchos coasted to a 3-0 win at Cal State Bakersfield in their final non-conference game of the season on Sunday afternoon.
UCSB (4-3-3) took a 1-0 lead over the Roadrunners (5-5-1) at the 15:14 mark in the first half when Shaelan Murison dribbled down the left side of the 18-yard box, hit a cross from left-to-right to Viana who one-timed it past goalkeeper Andrea Neves. The goal marked the third time in the last four games that Murison and Viana combined for a score.
The Gauchos made it 2-0 at 32:49. Cate Post took possession of the ball near the left sideline just above the corner. After some footwork, Post airmailed a long cross into the center of the box. The ball eluded a UCSB player and a defender, but Lewis, a freshman collected it directly in the middle of the goal. Lewis turned to her left and slid a shot past Neves for her first career goal.
In the 83rd minute, Post lofted a long pass from midfield that went over the defenders and found Murison about 10 yards inside the left sideline. Murison carried the ball in to her right and lifted a shot over Neves, into the far right corner of the goal. It was her eighth goal of the season and she now has eight goals and three assists for 19 points.
"I'm very happy with our final game before conference starts," said head coach Paul Stumpf. "You want to go into league play on the upswing and we're doing that. Our possession was good and I'm happy with our team defending."
The Gauchos dominated the match statistically as they outshot the Roadrunners 14-3, including 6-0 in shots on frame. They also had a 6-1 edge in corner kicks.
UCSB will host Long Beach State to open Big West Conference play on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Harder Stadium with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
