SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -
The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team pieced together a complete effort in singles and doubles on Saturday, winning the match against Pacific 7-0. Now 3-8 on the season, UCSB will look to ride momentum into the match against the University of San Francisco on Sunday.
The doubles point was secured by the Gauchos after two matches: Joseph Guillin and Alejandro Vedri dominated on court two, 6-2, while Alex Soto and Joshua Williams cleaned up on court three, 6-3. Victor Krustev and Joseph Rotheram held the advantage on the center court, 5-2, but could not wrap it up before the Gauchos earned the opening point of the day.
Wilhelm Saiga slid into the #5 singles spot for UCSB, and Williams took the #6 court, and the rest of the Gauchos assumed their normal positions.
Rotheram, winning 6-0, 6-2 was the first off, and with the same energy he displayed throughout his match he led the charge for the rest of the team on the sidelines. Williams won next in two sets, breaking serve at the deuce point en route to a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Alex Vedri controlled the pace in the first set, a neat 6-0 victory, before he scored the clinching point in the match with his 6-4 win in set two. Shortly thereafter, Joseph Guillin, finished off Pacific's number one 6-3, 6-2. Krustev's match, tied at one set apiece, made its way into the last set before his opponent retired out.
The last match to play out was Saiga; he won the tiebreak in set one 7-5, and wrapped up the perfect evening for UCSB with a 6-4 win.
