Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Davis completed its sweep of the UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team by defeating the Gauchos 78-61 on Saturday afternoon at the Thunderdome.
Freshman guard Anya Choice drilled four three-pointers, including three in the second quarter, en route to a team-leading 18-point performance for the Gauchos (2-9, 2-5 Big West), but UC Davis' (5-0, 4-0 Big West) starting five all finished in double-digits to propel the Aggies to a win over the hosts.
There was little to separate the two teams in the first quarter until UC Davis' Sage Stobbart and Mackenzie Trpcic converted on back-to-back possessions to give the Aggies a 14-9 lead just over five minutes into the matchup, an advantage that would be kept through to the end of the period.
The Gauchos tied things up off a pullup jumper by senior point guard Danae Miller and a triple from freshman guard Anya Choice early in the second quarter, but the Aggies responded with a 7-2 run powered by a pair of Stobbart layups and a Lena Svanholm triple.
Back-to-back Choice threes helped UCSB close the gap to a point, but the Aggies' Cierra Hall added two three-pointers to her tally and Kayla Konrad closed out the half with a jumper to increase the visitors' halftime lead to 37-29.
The Aggies kept widening the gap in the second half, despite UCSB's attempts to close in on the visitors. Choice scored on a driving layup, drew a foul, and made the ensuing free throw to complete the three-point play to cut the Davis lead to four, but from that point onward, the Aggies dominated the matchup.
They went on to lead by as much as 13 in the third quarter and 20 in the fourth quarter before the final buzzer, resulting in the Gauchos' third defeat in a row.
Up next for the Gauchos is a series with Long Beach State at Walter Pyramid on Feb. 5 and 6, with both games set to begin at 4 p.m. Live stream information will be released in next week's series preview, while live stats will be available on UCSBGauchos.com.
