LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The fourth-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (15-5) defeated No. 15 Loyola Marymount 20-12 on Sunday morning at Burns Aquatics Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a first quarter that ended 4-4, the Gauchos separated themselves with six goals in the second period – two from Nathan Puentes and Cole Brosnan, and one apiece from Adam Gyenis and Tommy Hawkins – to double up on LMU's three goals in the same span and take a 10-7 lead into the halftime break.
- The Gauchos did the same thing in the third quarter, outscoring LMU 6-3 on Sam Nangle, Leo Yuno, Cole Brosnan, Puentes, James Oriskovich, and Alan Peoples goals.
- With a 16-10 lead after three frames, UCSB cruised to a 20-12 win with four goals in the final eight minutes.
- Puentes finished with four goals, while Cole Brosnan had three. Ryan Brosnan, Gyenis, Logan Sutter, and Yuno each scored two goals.
UP NEXT
- UCSB heads to Pacific and Cal next weekend, with the first matchup against the Tigers being a Golden Coast Conference contest. The game at Pacific takes place at 12:00 p.m. on Oct. 16, whereas the matchup with the Golden Bears starting at noon the next day on Oct. 17.
