LA JOLLA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team (8-3-3, 4-0-1 Big West) extended its unbeaten streak to seven games with its 1-0 defeat of UC San Diego at Triton Soccer Stadium on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the fifth minute, senior forward Ameyawu Muntari whipped in a corner from the right side and senior center back William Gillingham flicked it on towards the goal line, forcing UCSD goalkeeper Nick Shor to dive towards the middle of goal and palm it away. However, it hit junior center back Henry Davies in the stomach and bounced back down on the ground, allowing the Australian to hit it into the bottom left corner of goal on his left foot to go ahead 1-0.
- The Gauchos put 16 shots up, with four on target. Aside from Gillingham's shot, junior attacker Diran Bebekian had a shot on target in the 27th minute, and sophomore forward Nemo Philipp had two in the second half.
- With 1:36 left in the contest, UC San Diego's Omar Sabbagh scored a goal in traffic in the six-yard box off a cross from the right side, but it was disallowed once referee Robert Sarfaraz deemed an offense had occurred in the box.
NOTABLE
- The shutout is the Gauchos' fifth of the season and second in a row.
- UCSB has not allowed a goal in the past 200 minutes and 15 seconds of game time.

UC Riverside and CSU Bakersfield sit in third and fourth, respectively by virtue of the Highlanders' win over the Roadrunners earlier this season, with nine apiece.
