Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—The UC Santa Barbara Women's Volleyball Team improved to 12-9 on the year with an 8-1 Big West record Tuesday night sweeping CSUN at home.
ON THE STAT SHEET
- UCSB's defense was a highlight of the night with a total of nine blocks
- Brianna McKnight led the way with 10 kills, her first career match in double-digits
- Deni Wilson led the match with six kills falling just one shy of her season-high
- The Gauchos outhit hit the Matadors .408 to .216 notching eclipsing the .400 mark for the second time in the last four matches – it is the 13th best performance in program history and the 9th best in conference play
- Mehana Ma'a led the Gauchos with 23 assists, while Grace Kloss added 20
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set (25-29 UCSB)
- The Gauchos' defense held CSUN to a match-low .030 hitting percentage
- The two teams traded punches through the early points, but after meeting at 10-10 the Gauchos ripped off a 12-4 run to take full control of the opening set
- Ohwobete led the Gauchos with four kills and the set ended on back-to-back errors by the Matadors
Second Set (25-21 UCD)
- Abrielle Bross and Deni Wilson stacked the stat sheet with five kills apiece
- The Gauchos post a 19-2-35 line for a match-high .486 hitting percentage to go along with a 68% success rate on sideout opportunities
- Once again the Matadors did not make it easy with both teams meeting at 16-16 but the Gauchos managed to put their foot in the ground ending the set on a 9-5 run
- The set ended on three straight kills from McKnight and Bross
Third Set (25-15 UCSB)
- UCSB dominated the third set with a total of 20 kills, while holding the Matadors to just nine
- The Gauchos offense put in work with a killer hitting percentage of .471, while the Matadors were held to a .222
- Macall Peed was camped on the service line during a 7-0 run where the Gauchos went up20-12
- UCSB converted on a match-high 80% of its sideout opportunities and ended the match on a savvy setter-dump from Peed

The Gauchos will now look to their Friday night matchup where they will face Hawai'i in a battle for first place. First serve is set for 7 PM in the Thunderdome.
