No. 7 Gauchos Defeat No. 18 California Baptist in Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament Opener, 23-9

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (16-7) defeated California Baptist 23-9 in the Gauchos' first match of the 2021 Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Aquatic Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Gauchos did most of their damage early, going ahead 8-4 in the first period and tacking on six more in the second to lead 14-4 at the half.
  • Sawyer Rhodes had four of his five goals in the game in the first two quarters, including a hat trick within the first frame.
  • Ryan Brosnan had the second-most goals on the team with four, scoring in each of the second, third, and fourth quarters.

  • UCSB takes on No. 13 Harvard on Sunday morning at 8:00 a.m. and closes out the tournament with tournament hosts Santa Clara at 1:20 p.m.
