SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (18-7) closed out its weekend at the Julian Fraser Memorial Tournament with a pair of wins over No. 13 Harvard and Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Aquatic Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
No. 7 UCSB 13, No. 13 Harvard 10
- Cole Brosnan, Mason Chambliss, and Adam Gyenis scored in the first period to lead 3-1, but Harvard narrowed the gap to one goal with a 3-2 second quarter.
- The Gauchos scored three consecutive goals out of the break, with Henry Allen, Gyenis, and Cole Brosnan finding the back of the cage to put UCSB ahead 8-4.
- The blue and gold never gave up the lead, closing the game out with Gyenis completing his hat trick with 17 seconds left to win by three.
- Connor MacDonald made 11 saves in the win.
No. 7 UCSB 19, Santa Clara 5
- The Gauchos scored five goals in each of the first two quarters to lead 10-3 at the half.
- Six third-quarter goals extended the advantage to 16-4, and UCSB was able to see it out with a 3-1 fourth period.
- Cole Brosnan and Nathan Puentes had hat tricks for the Gauchos as the squad racked up 46 shots to Santa Clara's 25.
