SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The fifth-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (14-4) outscored No. 4 Stanford 3-1 in the final period of play, but the Gauchos came up just short on Saturday afternoon at Campus Pool.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCSB battled back from a 4-1 deficit to tie the game at 4-4 at halftime on goals from Cole Brosnan, Nathan Puentes, and Henry Allen.
- Stanford built a three-goal lead back up throughout the third quarter, with Tyler Abramson scoring on the power play with 1:33 remaining in the period giving the visitors a 9-6 lead.
- UCSB's Mason McQuet cut the lead down to two with the first goal of the fourth frame, but Abramson got it back up to a 10-7 advantage less than 30 seconds later.
- The Gauchos' Sawyer Rhodes and Puentes scored to bring the gap back down to a single possession, but Stanford held out and kept the hosts from finding the back of the cage for the rest of the game.
