LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The seventh-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's water polo suffered a 13-9 defeat at the hands of No. 3 USC in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- USC led UCSB 5-2 after the first quarter, but the Gauchos cut the deficit to two at the half after outscoring the Trojans 3-2 in the second quarter on back-to-back-to-back goals from Cole Brosnan, Mason McQuet, and James Oriskovich to come back into the game from a 7-2 deficit.
- Leo Yuno pulled the Gauchos within one with the first goal of the third period, but then USC scored three of the next four goals to take a 10-7 lead with just over six minutes to go in regulation.
- Nangle and Yuno twice pulled UCSB back within two in the final frame, piling on the pressure on the Trojan defense in the final minutes. However, USC held on and added another pair of goals to kill the Gauchos' comeback bid.
