Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara women's basketball team (1-0) defeated Loyola Marymount 61-58 in its season opener on Tuesday night at the Thunderdome.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- UCSB trailed by two after the first quarter, but outscored LMU 15-9 in the second frame to lead 27-23 at the halftime break.
- Junior guard Alexis Tucker and junior center Ila Lane combined for 15 points of the Gauchos' 20 points in the third quarter, as the two ensured the offense kept pace with LMU's resurgence, as the game tightened to a one-point, 47-46 lead.
- The game came down to the wire, but senior point guard Danae Miller put a dagger in LMU with a pair of three-pointers on either side of senior guard Megan Anderson's jumper inside the final three and a half minutes and a free throw with 16 seconds remaining to start the Gauchos off on the right foot in the 2021-22 campaign.
NOTABLE
- Miller finished with 18 points, leading the team.
- Tucker scored 13 points with five makes, including a three-pointer, and two free throws
- Lane fell two points short of a double-double, putting up eight points and adding 10 boards.
