Box Score STOCKTON, Calif.– The UC Santa Barbara Men's Basketball team took a loss in its first overtime game of the season Tuesday night falling to host Pacific 80-71.
ON THE STAT SHEET
- Ajare Sanni led all players dropping 18 points on his old team going 7-for-13 from the field and 4-for-9 from the three-point line to go with five rebounds and a steal
- Josh Pierre-Louis notched 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting with four boards and assists, and Amadou Sow and Miles Norris each had 11
- The Gauchos were outrebounded 37-29 allowing 11 offensive rebounds that the Tigers cashed in for 11 points
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Half (33-29 UOP)
- Pacific led wire-to-wire in the first half jumping out to a strong start and growing its lead to as much as 14 points at 32-18 with five minutes to go, but the Gauchos found their footing and secured a solid run to end the half
- Sow broke the three-point seal sinking the first triple of the night for the Gauchos who used that big shot to go on a 11-1 run to end the period and head into the locker room trailing by just four at 33-29
- Sanni led the way against his old team going 4-for-6 with a pair of threes for 10 points
Second Half (33-29 UCSB)
- UCSB came all the way back to tie it at 40-40 early in the second half thanks to a three-ball by Norris who finally found one after missing his first four
- The first lead of the game for the Gauchos came with 12 minutes left at 45-44 on the second straight triple from Norris
- Tied at 57 apiece Sanni nailed his fourth three of the night and Calvin Wishart dropped in a pair of free throws to go up by five, but Pacific found five of their own to ice the game again
- Each team got a look at a go-ahead and potentially game-winning bucket but neither team could convert as they headed to overtime
Overtime (18-9 UOP)
- UCSB was outscored 18-9 in its first overtime period of the year going 3-for-8 from the field and 3-for-9 from the charity stripe
UP NEXT
UCSB now returns home to host its final pair of non-conference games. The Gauchos welcome Florida A&M to the Thunderdome Sunday, December 19 and host Idaho State for a Wednesday noon game on the 22nd.
Big West Conference play begins on the road on December 30 at UC San Diego.
