Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team returned to Harder Stadium after a tough three-game road trip on Friday night, but lost 3-0 to USC.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- USC attacker Croix Bethune nestled a perfectly placed shot in the bottom left corner of the goal on an assist from Penelope Hocking to make it 1-0 in the fifth minute.
- Hocking added a goal to her assist at the 40:31 mark when she scored on a penalty kick that she chose to send to the left of UCSB's goalkeeper, putting the Trojans up by two.
- Bethune picked up a second goal in the 87th minute, following up on a rebound from a saved Simone Jackson shot on the edge of the box with a chip over a pair of Gaucho defenders into an empty net.
NOTABLE
- The Gauchos registered two shots in the game, coming from freshman midfielder Lauren Helwig and freshman defender O'Callahan Liu.
- UCSB sophomore goalkeeper Evann Smith made seven saves in the game, including several acrobatic efforts that blocked USC shots from finding the back of the net.
