Gauchos, Beavers Settle for Score Draw in Corvallis

Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team (3-3-2) went into double overtime for the fourth consecutive game and the fifth time this season as the Gauchos battled back from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Oregon State at Paul Lorenz Field on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Oregon State earned the lead in the fourth minute of play after the UCSB defense scored an own goal.
  • The Beavers kept the Gauchos quiet for the rest of the first half, save for a shot on target by junior midfielder Sam Fletcher, but the visitors managed to pick it up in the second half.
  • Junior attacker Thaabit Baartman scored his fourth goal of the season in the 77th minute to tie the game up for the Gauchos.
  • Neither team could get much going in the overtime periods, with the Gauchos being held without a shot and the Beavers taking four shots, but none on target. OSU's Sofiane Djeffal had the last big chance of the game when he took a free kick approximately 23 yards from goal, but he curled it over the top.

NOTABLE

  • Oregon State outshot UCSB 14-10 overall and 4-3 in shots on target.
  • This is the sixth game this season in which UCSB's opponent has scored first, with tonight's game marking the third time that the team has earned a result. The other two are the 7-1 win against San Diego on Aug. 26 and the 1-1 draw against Cal on Aug. 29.
  • The Gauchos finish their non-conference road slate with a 1-2-1 record.
  • UCSB committed a season-high 21 fouls in the contest.
  • Fletcher and freshman forward Salvador Aguilar were issued yellow cards.
