SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – A pair of goals from sophomore attacker Finn Ballard McBride saw the UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team (4-3-2) defeat Cal Poly in front of a crowd of 8,000 fans on Saturday night at Harder Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a first half that didn't lead to an advantage for either team, UCSB goalkeeper Leroy Zeller made a save on a shot by Cal Poly captain Emmanuel Perez in the 54th minute to keep things scoreless.
- It was in the 65th minute that the Gauchos would take the lead on a Ballard McBride goal, with a primary assist on the cross from freshman midfielder Jorge Aldana and a secondary helper to senior forward Ameyawu Muntari.
- A short five minutes later, Ballard McBride competed a brace when Muntari released the Australian into a one-on-one with Cal Poly goalkeeper Carlos Arce-Hurtado, which Ballard McBride won with a calmly placed low driven shot into the left side of goal.
NOTABLE
- The win over the Mustangs marks the Gauchos' 50th all-time over their Central Coast rivals.
- Zeller and the Gaucho defense earned their third clean sheet of the season.
- UCSB outshot Cal Poly nearly three-to-one, putting up 14 shots to the visitors' five.
- Of the five yellow cards issued in the game, the Gauchos only picked up one – given to freshman forward Salvador Aguilar in the 12th minute.
