No. 5 UCSB Takes Fifth Place at 2021 MPSF Invitational

BERKELEY, Calif. – The fifth-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team defeated No. 8 Pacific 14-6 to take fifth place at the 2021 MPSF Invitational on Sunday morning at Spieker Aquatics Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first two quarters of play made way to a tight back-and-forth between UCSB and Pacific, with the Gauchos taking a one-goal lead into the halftime break.
  • Dash McFarland set the tone for the second half by scoring the first two goals of the third period for the Gauchos. Leo Yuno and James Oriskovich followed them up with goals of their own to extend the Gaucho lead to 10-5 with 1:22 remaining in the third quarter.
  • Pacific scored a goal with one second remaining in the period, but that was all the Tigers would muster in the second half as UCSB shut Pacific out of the fourth quarter, 4-0.
  • McFarland would finish with four goals, Adam Gyenis put together a hat trick, and Leo Yuno scored a brace in the matchup.
