Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – The UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team went ahead by two goals in the first half, but Oregon battled back in the second half and neither team could break the deadlock in two overtimes as the contest between the Gauchos (1-2-2) and Ducks on Friday night at Papé Field ended in a 2-2 draw.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Freshman midfielder Lauren Helwig scored unassisted in the 24th minute to put the Gauchos ahead early in the contest.
- In the 43rd minute, junior midfielder Dylan Lewis was assisted by junior forward Jessica Wright and freshman defender Alyssa O'Brien to give UCSB a 2-0 lead entering the break.
- The Gaucho defense held until the 60th minute, when Zoe Hasenauer put away a penalty kick to cut the UCSB lead in half.
- Oregon scored the equalizer late in regulation, when Chai Cortez helped Ally Cook find the back of the net in the 84th minute of the matchup.
- The Ducks came closest to scoring in the two overtimes, forcing UCSB sophomore goalkeeper Evann Smith to make a pair of saves, one in each extra period.
NOTABLE
- The Gauchos now have four different goalscorers on the season, with Helwig, Lewis, O'Brien, and freshman midfielder Sophia Vivar each having recorded a goal in the early part of the campaign. Vivar led the team with two shots on target in tonight's matchup.
