SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara men's soccer team picked up its second win of the 2021 regular season with a 3-0 victory over the University of San Francisco on Friday night at Harder Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior forward and reigning Big West Offensive Player of the Week Ameyawu Muntari added an assist to his early-season tally when he cut inside from the right edge of the box to dump the ball off to junior attacker Thaabit Baartman, who placed the ball on his right foot into the bottom left corner of goal to put UCSB ahead in the fifth minute.
- Sophomore forward Finn Ballard McBride tacked on the third and final goal of the game as he latched onto a deflected Gonzalez cross from the left wing, slotting the ball past USF's Charlie McKay on his right foot in the 73rd minute.
NOTABLE
- Each Gaucho goalscorer on the night scored his second goal of the season. All three picked up their first in UCSB's season-opening 7-1 win over San Diego.
- UCSB sophomore goalkeeper Leroy Zeller put together his first clean sheet of the season, making four saves throughout the game.
- San Francisco's 17 fouls were the most by an opponent in the Gauchos' three games this season.
QUOTABLE
- "I think we had a good mentality coming out of the Cal game. We looked at the video and we realized there wasn't a lack of opportunities, it was what we did with the opportunities [we had] It was a good start for us and it got us going." – UCSB head coach Tim Vom Steeg on the Gauchos turning the lessons they learned from their 1-1 draw with Cal into an early lead against San Francisco.
