DAVIS, Calif. – Freshman forward Leila Emmerson scored a golden goal in the 97th minute of the Big West Conference matchup between the UC Santa Barbara women's soccer team (4-6-2, 2-1-0 Big West) and the UC Davis Aggies to win it for the Gauchos on Thursday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Gauchos ramped up their chances as the game went on, putting one shot on goal in the first half before forcing UC Davis goalkeeper Nicki Rucki to make two saves in the second half.
- On the defensive side, UCSB kept the hosts from recording a shot on goal after the 31st minute of play.
- The Gauchos' goal finally came in the 97th minute when Emmerson brought down a Shaye Douglas pass from the right wing, taking a touch at the top of the box to set up a left-footed shot that was fired into the right side of goal.
NOTABLE
- The win is UCSB's third 1-0 victory this season and fourth overtime result of the campaign.
- With her goal, Emmerson becomes the seventh different goalscorer of the season.
- Freshman defender Alyssa O'Brien had the secondary assist on the game-winner.
