LA JOLLA, Calif. – The sixth-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (3-1) closed out its showing at the 2021 Triton Invitational with a 14-6 win over Pomona-Pitzer and a tight 14-12 loss to No. 1 UCLA on the final day of the 2021 Triton Invitational on Sunday at Canyonview Aquatic Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Game one: No. 6 UCSB 14, Pomona-Pitzer 6
Game two: No. 1 UCLA 14, No. 6 UCSB 12
- The Gauchos jumped out to a 3-1 lead on goals from Sawyer Rhodes, James Oriskovich, and Henry Allen.
- UCSB matched UCLA's output in the second and third quarters, with both teams scoring four goals apiece.
- The Bruins outscored the Gauchos 4-1 in the fourth quarter, taking the lead with just 2:13 to go in the final period and tacking on another goal with a minute left to end UCSB's comeback hopes.
- From the 1:03 mark in the second quarter to 5:45 remaining in the fourth period, neither team lead by more than a goal.
- Rhodes completed his excellent weekend at the Triton Invitational with six goals against UCLA, three of which came in the third quarter.
