Norris Ties Three-Point Record in UCSB's 72-45 Win Over CSUN

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.– The UCSB Men's Basketball team (8-7, 1-2) returned to play in a big way Tuesday night defeating host CSUN (5-13, 1-5) 72-45. It was the first road win and conference win of the season for the Gauchos, the 150th win in head coach Joe Pasternack's career, and senior forward Miles Norris tied the all-time three-point record hitting nine in a row to lift his team over the Matadors.

ON THE STAT SHEET

  • Senior forward Miles Norris was unconscious with the ball in his hands scoring a career-high 31 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field and 9-of-10 from three to go with five rebounds
  • His nine straight threes are a program record and he nearly tied the three-point percentage record set by Orlando Johnson (5-for-5 – 1.000)
  • Pasternack picked up his 150th career-win and his 96th as a Gaucho
  • UCSB outshot CSUN 55.1% to 30.0% and won the rebound battle 35 to 26
  • Senior center Amadou Sow added 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting with four rebounds and freshman guard Ajay Mitchell led all players with eight assists
  • For the sixth time this season the Gauchos had 20+ assists notching 22
  • After not making 10+ threes at all this season UCSB has now reached that mark twice in a row shooting a season-high 12 tonight

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half (34-32 UCSB)

  • Norris powered the Gaucho offense in the first period scoring 16 points and was nearly perfect going 4-for-4 from deep and 5-for-6 from the field
  • The senior made the first five shots he took missing only missing his sixth in a tight spot with under a minute ago
  • UCSB enjoyed a quick start jumping out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes and managed to hold it for the entirety of the first half but CSUN began to chip away in the final five minutes
  • Turnovers, missed free-throws, and late fouls hurt the Gauchos as halftime approached allowing the Matadors to cut the lead to just two heading into the locker rooms 

Second Half (38-13 UCSB)

  • The barrage continued in the second half for Norris who nailed four straight triples to give the Gauchos a double-digit lead
  • He nearly tied the all-time record on what would have been his fifth attempt nailing a last second three that after review was released just as a millisecond late and overturned and deemed a shot clock violation
  • Great spacing and passing mixed with the hot hand of Norris led UCSB to outscore CSUN 18-2 and hold the Matadors to 2-of-14 shooting in the first 10 minutes of the period
  • UCSB finished the half holding the Matadors to 20% shooting and outscoring them 38-13 as it cruised to its first road win of the year
