Avenging Last Season

Continuing the Win Streak
In the season-opening dual meet against Cal Poly (Oct. 8), the Gauchos swept their rivals, winning all but five events at home at Campus Pool. The final score for the men was 186-105, and the score for the women was 192-99. UCSB then traveled to Bakersfield the next weekend(Oct. 14-15), emerging victorious after two days of swimming. The men finished with 561 points, 197 points ahead of second-place Cal. Baptist University while the women finished with 517.5 points, 173 points ahead of runner-up San Jose State.
Athletes of the Week
For the first time this season, UCSB Swimming's very own Nina Statler and Austin Sparrow were named MPSF/TYR Athletes of the Week for women and men, respectively, for the week of October 12. This Statler's first MPSF honor and Sparrow's first MPSF Athlete of the Week honor of their careers.
