SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The No. 8 UC Santa Barbara team closed out its two-game home stand on Sunday with an 11-6 defeat against No. 2-T Cal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Goalscorers: Nangle (2), Chambliss, McKenzie, Zamanian, Beamon
Saves: Danny Roland (9)
The Gauchos (7-9) looked good to start, as senior center Sam Nangle got them started once again. Senior driver Ryan Brosnan found Nangle inside for a quick catch, turn and shoot to tie it at 1-1 at the 4:17 mark of the first.
Three minutes later, redshirt freshman attacker Brock Zamanian scored to give UCSB a 2-1 lead.
The Golden Bears (12-1) went on a 5-0 run from there before Nangle scored his second of the day with 1:15 left in the opening half to make it a 6-3 Cal advantage.
Cal's defense wouldn't let up in the second half, stopping a pair of Gaucho penalties as the lead increased to 11-4 early in the fourth. Sam McKenzie and Hayes Beamon scored the final two goals of the day to end things with a five-goal Bears win.
