Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Oct. 1, 2022)— Earning its sixth-straight win Saturday was the UCSB Volleyball team (8-6, 4-0) which swept visiting Cal State Bakersfield (3-13, 0-4) in three dominant sets 25-11, 25-18, 25-16.
On the Stat Sheet
- It was another strong outing for Briana McKnight who went two sets without a single error on 11 swings. She would finish with a 13-4-28 mark with a .321 clip as the only player in double-digits and added six digs as well. The 13 kills are a career-high for the outside hitter.
- Mehana Ma'a cashed in 23 assists to go with five digs and Macall Peed had 21 digs and five assists.
- Michelle Ohwobete narrowly missed a double-double with eight kills and 10 digs.
- The Gauchos topped the Roadrunners in every statistical category and only trailed once in the entire match.
How it Happened
- The Gauchos led wire to wire in the first set which saw them hold the Roadrunners to a .000 hitting percentage and a 37% sideout rate. The lead grew to as much as 16 at 23-7 and featured an 8-0 run. Ohwobete had four kills in the set.
- The second frame saw CSUB come out hot with a 6-1 run that gave them a 8-3 lead, but it wouldn't last as out of a timeout UCSB went on a run of its own 9-3 run of its own to overtake the lead. With Ohwobete at the service line the Gauchos ended the set on a 5-0 run. McKnight was electric posting a 8-0-11 line in the comeback.
- The Roadrunners never led or retied the match after dropping the first point of the set with UCSB once again holding them to a low team clip of .129. The home team held serve well and took it away from CSUB by going 15-for-17 on sideout attempts.
