Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Oct. 6, 2022) – UC Santa Barbara Women's Soccer welcomed the Santa Barbara Soccer Club tonight as it hosted the Tritons of UC San Diego for a Big West match. Despite the series history favoring the Gauchos, this contest ended up with yet another draw as UCSB earned its sixth tie of the season with a 0-0 draw against the Tritons.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Gauchos started off hot. They came out strong, striking against the Tritons' defense and putting up five shots alone in the first 45 minutes. But even with their persistence, the Gauchos could not find the back of the net, resulting in a 0-0 score heading into the half.
Once the Gauchos were back on the field, they continued to put in work against UC San Diego. Despite the efforts from Elise Ziem, who made the goalkeeper work from post to post to keep her shots from reaching the back of the net. UC Santa Barbara's defense also stepped up to the plate against the Triton attack. With no goals finding the back of the net, the Gauchos and the Tritons ended this conference match in a 0-0 tie, giving both goalkeepers a shutout on the season.
LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS
- The shots Ziem put on goal stood out in this match as she aspired to find the back of the net. The senior forward ended these 90 minutes with a team-high three shots, two of which were on goal.
- Also adding to the offensive pressure was midfielder Krysten Vasquez and defender Shaye Douglas. These two sophomores put up two shots apiece, with Douglas putting her header on goal that came off a deflection.
- UC San Diego beat out the Gauchos on possession, but UC Santa Barbara showed up in other categories. The home team had 10 shots compared to Triton's six while also having eight corners to UC San Diego's seven.
