SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022)— The UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team (10-9) earned its tenth win of the season this Saturday at home against Loyola Marymount (12-4), taking down the Lions 9-6 at Campus Pool.
On the Stat Sheet
- Keeper Danny Roland was electric between the posts allowing just three goals in 27 minutes, while collecting 15 saves.
- Ryan Brosnan led the team with two goals and the other seven were scored by a committee of seven different Gauchos.
- Brock Zamanian led all players with two assists .
- UCSB outshot LMU .300-.207.
How It Happened
- UCSB and LMU went shot for shot in the first quarter, but found no success as both team's defenses held strong in a shutout period.
- The Gauchos found their momentum in the second quarter, with Dash McFarland leading the charge with the game's first goal from center. An outside skipshot past LMU defense from Colton Gregory followed, until Will Coons solidified the Gaucho lead, capitalizing on a 6-5 opportunity. A final goal from Adam Gyenis brought the scoreboard to 4 -1 at the halftime buzzer in favor of the blue and gold squad.
- The second half of the game saw the Lions claw back onto the scoreboard, putting up a solid offensive front. LMU put five goals on the board, leaving UCSB to stand its ground defensively to hold the lead. Keeper Danny Rolland stepped up in the moment keeping the Lions at bay time and time again.
