Cross Country Teams Will Race At NCAA West Regionals

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (Nov. 10, 2022) – The UC Santa Barbara Men's and Women's cross country teams are headed to Spokane, Washington for NCAA Regionals as search for a spot at the NCAA Championships in one week.  Tomorrow, the teams will race at the Chambers Creek Regional Park with the University of Washington serving as the host.

Following strong performances at The Big West Championships in Riverside, California, the Gauchos are ready to take on this new challenge as they face some of the top teams in the country to earn a spot in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

On the men's side, the team finished second of eight teams with two of their runners finishing in the Top 10. Freshman Ethan Godsey has been a staple for this team all season. He finished fourth in the field while teammate Gus Marshall came in ninth. For the women, Sarah Chaves was first across the finish line for the Gauchos with Ava Maier coming in right after her.

Both teams will be facing similar competition in this crucial meet. There are top teams competing for the coveted spots, ranking in the Top 30 in the USTFCCCA Coaches Poll. Some of the teams on that list include Stanford, Washington, Oregon, Portland, Gonzaga and Cal Baptist. Conference opponent Cal Poly along with Oregon State and Boise State received votes in the most recent polls.

The first race will begin at 1 p.m. tomorrow as the women take off on the 6K course. The men's race will follow after the women's on a 10K course, the longest they competed on this season. Fans can follow along with the action through Record Timing. For more information about the day's events, visit the University of Washington's website.
