Box Score SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (Nov. 11, 2022)— The UC Santa Barbara women's volleyball team (17-8, 13-2) picked up its fifth-straight sweep Friday night downing Cal State Fullerton (12-11, 6-9) at home 25-14, 25-21, 25-15. The Gauchos are now 9-0 at home in the Thunderdome.
On the Stat Sheet
- For the 13th time this season the Gauchos had double-digit blocks tallying 15 as they held the Titans to a .122 hitting percentage. On the other end UCSB posted a .405 clip with 39 total assists.
- Michelle Ohwobete led all players with 13 kills on an efficient 13-2-27 line for a .407 clip. She added five blocks and a pair of aces and digs as well.
- Tasia Farmer added a 9-2-14 line for a .500 mark and Deni Wilson was errorless the match going 6-0-9 with eight blocks.
- Macall Peed was the sole player with double-digit digs scooping extending her streak to 17-straight games with 10+. She paced the field with four aces as well.
- Nia Correal had three kills and five blocks and Briana McKnight totaled five kills and seven digs.
- Mehana Ma'a tallied 18 assists and four digs and Grace McIntosh finished just behind her with 16 on just 27 attempts (.593).
How it Happened
- The Titans jumped ahead 4-1 in the first set but the Gauchos were quick to respond posting a 19-6 run that saw them hit .414 while holding Fullerton to a match-low .000. Ohwobete had six kills in the frame doubling up the next nearest player on the floor.
- The second frame saw the two teams trade punches in the early going until UCSB took a five-point lead at 13-8. Cal State Fullerton then found its footing chipping away at the until it was a two-point game at 17-15, but a McKnight kill, a Wilson block, and a Peed ace gave the Gauchos a commanding lead late in the set. The clinching point would come from a block by Correal and Farmer. UCSB had seven blocks in the frame.
- UCSB made quick work of Cal State Fullerton in the final set hitting a ridiculous .542 while holding the Titans to sub-.200 mark for the third time of the night at .192. Fullerton never led in the set as Ohwobete poured in five more kills on an errorless 5-0-6 (.833) line.
Next Up
UCSB now has a quick turnaround hosting a tough Long Beach State team in the Thunderdome tomorrow night at 7 PM. The Beach are one of just two teams to knock off the 13-2 Gauchos this season.
