Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. (Nov. 19, 2022)— The 15th Big West win of the season came across the board for the UCSB women's volleyball team (19-9, 15-3) Saturday night as the Gauchos swept UC Riverside (4-23, 2-16) on the road.
ON THE STAT SHEET
- The Gauchos outhit the Highlanders .305 to .179 and led the match in every stat category with the exception of blocks.
- Tallulah Froley led all players with 12 kills and did so on a potent 12-3-22 (.409) line.
- Mehana Ma'a, who reached 1,000 career assists this past Thursday, added to her total with 21 assists and notched a double-double with 10 assists.
- Michelle Ohwobete had an efficient 8-2-19 (.316) line, scooped up six digs, and was busy on the passing end collecting 25 serve receptions with just one error.
- Macall Peed led the Gauchos with 13 digs and added four assists and a pair of aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Despite hitting just .032 in the first set, UCSB never trailed thanks in part to nine service errors by the Highlanders. After falling behind 15-11, UCR chipped away until it tied the frame up at 17-17, but the Gauchos were quick to respond closing it out on an 8-3 run.
- UCSB went errorless in the second set posting a ridiculous 16-0-22 (.727) line as a team and never trailed or allowed the Highlanders to tie it jumping out to a 15-4 lead. The lead grew to as much at 14 at the final point as Froley went for five kills on six kills.
- UCR responded in the third taking an early 6-3 lead which held until UCSB knotted it at 12-12. A 7-4 run by the Gauchos saw them take a late lead that they would hold for the rest of the final frame. Peed ended the match on an ace.
