Box Score SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. (Nov. 5, 2022)— For the first time since 2014, the UCSB women's volleyball team (16-8, 12-2) swept the season series with rival Cal Poly (13-11, 10-4) earning a three-set win at Mott Gym for the second-straight year. It was a huge win for the Gauchos who now remain in the hunt for The Big West Championship and are the only team to win in SLO this season.
On the Stat Sheet
- Michelle Ohwobete led all players with 14 kills on a potent .344 clip (14-3-32) and added four digs and a block.
- The Gauchos' middles were nearly perfect on the attack as Nia Correal posted an errorless 5-0-6 line (.833) and Deni Wilson secured an errorless 4-0-7 line (.571). Correal added a match-high three blocks.
- Macall Peed led all players with 14 digs and tallied three assists and two huge, timely aces.
- Mehana Ma'a led the Gauchos with 20 assists and Grace McIntosh posted a 17 assist–10 dig double-double.
- Tallulah Froley added seven kills from the right side on a .385 clip and Briana McKnight went for seven kills and five digs while going a perfect 20-for-20 on serve receptions.
- The Gauchos outhit the Mustangs .315 to .207.
How it Happened
- The Gaucho outhit the Mustangs .316 to .189 in the opening set silencing a packed Mott Gym with a dominant first-set win. After meeting at 15-15 the Gauchos unleashed a 6-0 run that forced Cal Poly to call both timeouts and put them in the driver's seat at 21-15. Kills from four different Gauchos put them at 25.
- The second frame saw 14 ties and seven lead changes in a back-and-forth affair that actually saw UCSB outhit .262 to .200. After being tied at 20 apiece, the home team raced to set point on a 4-1 run, but the Gauchos were not finished. UCSB answered with a 5-0 run of its own staving off three set-points and thanks to a kill by Tasia Farmer, back-to-back aces by Peed, and a clinching block by Ohwobete and Correal took the wind completely out of Cal Poly's sails.
- The third and final set was all Gauchos as UCSB outhit the Mustangs .467 to .156 and held them to just 41% on sideout attempts. UCSB jumped out to a 7-1 lead and led the set in its entirety as the team picked up its 11th sweep of the season.

The schedule now swings back home to the Thunderdome as UCSB hosts Cal State Fullerton and third-place Long Beach State this coming weekend. Both matches will be aired live on ESPN+.
