Bakersfield, Calif.- The UC Santa Barbara men's (3-0) and women's (4-1) swimming earned a dual sweep over Cal State Bakersfield. The men's final score was 169-116 while the women's score was 175-101.
The women were victorious in the relays, taking both the 200 Medley (1:45.75) and 400 Free Relay (3:39.48). The Medley was swum by Hazel Derr, Ashley Ray, Nina Statler, and Tyryn Empremsilapa; the 400 Free Relay team consisted of Alyssa Lund, Paige Gambetta, Olivia Hovorka, and Amelia Hammer.
Individually, Derr touched first in the 100 (57.09) and the 200 (2:05.06) Back. Ray was victorious in the 50 Free (24.09) while Lund was first in the 100 Free (53.42). Banos also finished first in the 200 Free (1:52.68), 100 Fly (56.07), and 200 Fly (2:03.08). On the distance side, Isabel Martinez-Spencer touched first in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:30.92.
The men were first in the 200 Medley (1:32.66) which was swam by Matthew Driscoll, Justin Wong, Alec Cullen, and Sean Gutowski. Driscoll also took first in the 50 Free (20.88) and 100 Back (51.14). Sparrow was victorious in the 200 Free (1:40.51)
Other individual victories include Kyle Brill in the 100 Breast (56.16) and 200 Back (1:48.50). Dominic Falcon finished first in the 200 Fly (1:49.83) while it was Corban McIntosh in the 200 Breast (2:03.87). Going the distance, Matt Vinh was victorious in the 500 Free (2:03.87) and Taber DaCosta touched first with a time of 9:27.61 in the 1000 Free.
Charlotte, N.C.- Representing UCSB on the east coast was Grace Lockwood in the Paralympic Nationals. After two days of swimming, Lockwood finished fourth in the 200m Back with a personal-best time of 2:58.90, fifth in the 50m Back (39.36), and another personal best 1:22.91 and 11th overall in the 100m Back.
The swimmers will return to competition at Cal Baptist on January 5.
