Gauchos Downed by #25 San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team was defeated 6-1 by No. 25 San Diego on Sunday afternoon. The loss snapped the Gauchos' (5-2) three match win streak and was their first loss since January 29 against Utah.

How it Happened

  • The Toreros seized the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. On court three, Marvin Schaber and David Norfeldt beat Pablo Masjuan and Gianluca Brunkow 6-2. USD secured the point with Will Davies and Iiro Vasa's 6-3 defeat of Victor Krustev and Jonathan Zhang 6-3
  • In the singles portion of the match, the Toreros won five of the six singles matches
  • Court three was the first matchup to be completed, with Vasa besting Kai Brady 6-3, 6-1. On court one, Phillip Jordan had his second singles loss of the season, with August Holmgren picking up a 6-3, 6-4 win
  • On court four, Alex Stater beat Masjuan 6-1, 6-4 to make the score 4-0 and clinch the match for San Diego
  • The Gauchos earned a point with a 7-5, 6-4 win by Gianluca Brunkow on court five
  • The Toreros earned wins on courts two and six, leading to the 6-1 final
