Gauchos Bested at Home by Cal State Fullerton 67-58

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UCSB Men's Basketball team was bested at home 67-58  Thursday night by visiting Cal State Fullerton which came from behind to outscore the Gauchos by nine in the second half and sweep the season series.

ON THE STAT SHEET

  • Senior forward Amadou Sow led the Gauchos with 11 points going 5-for-8 from the field with seven rebounds and senior Miles Norris added 10 and seven of his own.
  • Junior guard Ajay Mitchell led all players with eight assists which he paired with five rebounds
  • Graduate student Robinson Idehen, playing forward, secured eight points in the first half to surpass his season's average of 5.9 ppg. Junior guard Calvin Wishart would do the same, scoring 10 points ahead of his average of 6.2 ppg.

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF (27-27)

  • The Gauchos got out to a quick start as an Idehen layup followed by an immaculate dunk from Sow put the team on a 6-0 run as they made it a point to attack the basket. This resulted in two lead changes in the Gauchos' favor and it would remain this way for the remainder of the half.
  • Wishart took the ball up court to increase the lead to 22-14 with a solid three-pointer.
  • Down the stretch of the first period the Titans would claw back from down as many as 10 points hitting a late three to end the half tied at 27 apiece.

SECOND HALF (67-58 CSF)

  • Forward and senior Miles Norris scored the initial three-pointer in the second half and topped his streak off with another just as the shot clock timed out.
  • The Gauchos lead a defensive match as the score shifts in the favor of Fullerton for the first time due to their high free throw percentage of 69% being their primary source of points.
  •  Freshman Cole Anderson played his part with an impressive three-pointer which would help put UCSB back in the game after CSUF's scoring rampage at 59-55.
  • The Titan's Tray Maddox Jr. showed off his range hitting a medley of tough, contested three-pointer to put the game away for CSUF.
